About Little Trevean Nursery

Little Trevean Nursery is a wholesale supplier of specialist cut flowers, located in the far west of Cornwall, UK. The current owner, Ian Smith, is the fourth generation of his family to run the business.

The nursery originated on the island of St. Mary in the Isles of Scilly in the late 1800s, growing a large selection of daffodils. In 1921, the business moved to a six acre site on the mainland near to Penzance, Cornwall. During the Second World War the land was used mainly for growing vegetables; only one-quarter acre was permitted for growing flowers. After the war ended, the business began to introduce modern cultivation methods including, in 1952, the then revolutionary Ferguson T20 tractor. New crops were also introduced as they became available.

Today, we continue to apply modern cultivation methods. We work 10 acres growing up to 26 varieties of cut flowers, most grown outside under chase cloches. We have five polytunnels which are home to what we believe to be the largest collection of hybrid Nerines. The crop for which we are best known, however, is the 'Lily of the Valley'. The local climate usually allows us to supply this crop throughout March, April and May.

We have been sending our specialist cut flowers to Covent Garden Market in London for over 100 years. Modern transport networks mean, however, that we can now supply markets all over the UK.

We remain a family run business, obsessed with the quality of our crops; the "family eye" is the only one to pass the end product.
